My So-Called Style: Rayanne Graff + Angela Chase

Maybe you were around in the 90s, swooning over Jordan Catalano and singing along to Buffalo Tom and Juliana Hatfield in your best Contempo Casuals flannel baby doll dress, while watching My So-Called Life. Or maybe you were born in the 90s and are watching it on Hulu right now as I type this. Who ever you are, chances are you love My So-Called Life. There was Angela the popular girl, who got a little indie rock, dyed her hair Manic Panic red, and traded in her cheerleader friends for the more misfit set, over summer vacation. There was Jordan Catalano the dreamy rocker boy with an affinity for incomplete sentences. There was Ricky the adorable gay boy. Brian the nerdy neighbor, with his sights set on Angela, regardless of her complete lack of interest. And there was Rayanne Graff; the fashion forward free spirit, with a sense of adventure and affinity for smoking in the girl's bathroom.
With the resurgence of all things 90s fashion, Angela Chase and Rayanne Graff are the clear fashion icons of all things 90s. As we mismatch our earrings, snap the crotches of our bodysuits, and find ourselves with scrunchies around our wrists again, we can finally turn to My So-Called Life again, for inspiration. Only difference this time is Contempo Casuals is long gone and since it’s not 1995 the racks at Urban Outfitters don’t have that dress Angela wore in the Boiler Room episode anymore. So we need to be a little more creative. A little more DIY. A little more thrift storey. But with a little fashion creativity, you could be landing your own Jordan Catalano by Valentine’s Day Angela Chase style.
With that, I bring you some My So-Called Life fashion inspiration. Now all you have to do is decide whether you are more of an Angela or a Rayanne. I’ve already called dibs on being the Rayanne in my fashion circle. Now where is my scrunchie.
